Potions are basic, single-use healing items that restore a bit of a Pokémon's HP. They are purple spray containers. Potions are a common item, especially in the main Pokémon series, and first appear in Pokémon Red and Blue Versions.

Game appearances[edit]

Main series[edit]

In the main series, Potions can be bought at Poké Marts and found in various Poké Ball containers. Using a Potion on a Pokémon restores 20 of their HP. Potions are less effective on higher level Pokémon because they have more HP. Potions have no effect on fainted Pokémon. Although Pokémon can be equipped with a Potion, they are unable to use it, except in the Generation I games.

In the first three game generations, the player character can optionally open their PC to withdraw a Potion from it. In the first three generations, Potions are stored in the Items Pocket of the player character's Bag, but starting with Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Versions, they are instead stored in the Medicine Pocket.

In earlier games, Potions can be bought for Pokémon Dollar Gen IV sprite.png300 and sold for Pokémon Dollar Gen IV sprite.png150. Starting with Pokémon Sun and Moon Versions, Potions were made cheaper, and they can be bought for Pokémon Dollar Gen IV sprite.png200 and sold for Pokémon Dollar Gen IV sprite.png100.

Potions have a few variations, all of which restore more HP than regular Potions:
