Zapdos is an Electric/Flying-type Legendary Pokémon who debuted in Pocket Monsters Red and Green Versions (released as Pokémon Red and Blue Versions internationally). It is one of the three Legendary Birds along with Moltres and Articuno. Zapdos is based on the thunderbird of Native American folklore. In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Zapdos has a Galarian form that is a Fighting/Flying-type. Zapdos's name is a combination of the words "zap," owing to it being an Electric-type, and "dos," the Spanish word for "two," in that it is the second of the Legendary Birds. In some spinoff titles, Zapdos is encountered as a boss.
